Why I'm not a perfectionist?

I've had this title saved in my drafts folder for the longest time now and it's about time I actually got some thoughts out; And that thought is: Perfectionism. What is it? Why do people strive so much for it? Well, I could name a few reasons, one being, it's a personality trait, which is cool. But I don't think I've ever been a perfectionist, I just think it's a tad unrealistic. Just to be clear, I don't swan through life only half arsing tasks, jobs or projects- I am hard working, but if every little detail isn't perfect, I'm not going to cry about it.

I did actually attempt to be a perfectionist for a little while, back when I was Visual Merchandising it was 'all in the details' (hate that phrase now 😅) But every teeny tiny thing had to be just so and it was so exhausting! My mantra is 'work smart not hard' so I really struggled. When I did eventually hit my stride and get used to the pace and trying really hard for it all to be perfect. I found myself more stressed out, and dissatisfied with my work than ever before. I was always left feeling awful about everything all because it wasn't perfect and it actually stopped me from completing tasks all together.

So I guess what I'm saying is I think it's unrealistic to strive for perfectionism, and as long as I know that I've tried hard with something I'm OK with that. Perfectionism, also makes me feel bad about myself and I can't be the only one feeling this way, so please don't feel bad if you find your work isn't what you thought it was going to be weather you're a perfectionist or not. I thought this t-shirt was quite a fitting statement for this type of post :)
