Now that Christmas is over, it is the time of year to asses yourself, your life and goals... or rather, your achievements! I know 2016 was a pretty shit year politically and economically and some pretty awful things happened, but personally it was a good year for me. I have a small list of goals to achieve in 2017, blogging and personal ones- I'm hoping to have a post about them soon, but honestly I'm kinda stuck for blog goals and aims. I only really want to up the quality/ content of it tbh.

I like to look back on all the good things that happened to me this year and I thought I could do the same in terms of my blog. I'm always slightly amazed at how I've kept this up for so long, so I thought I would share a montage of pics over the last year. Some from previous years have crept in as I liked them so much. But they are just my personal faves, some candid ones from my most loved posts. Some of these are where I've not been ready and Jon has just caught me in the moment; I just thought this would be a fun kinda post to see.

Casual Party Wear for Christmas

marisa thorne uk fashion blogger

Consider this my Christmas content for the month, which I know isn't a lot, but I always find it hard to create and organise content around this time of year. This time of year, I especially feel a lot of pressure to be social, I feel the need to see everybody and do all the fun Christmas activities that crop up this time of year. What doesn't help is all the push notification I receive from fashion retailers advertising their 'Party wear collections'. I've done like, 3 Christmas social events and none of them were parties; So if you like me, need to be social but its a bit more low key, I have got your casual party wear inspo sorted.

Seeing as it is actually the festive season, its the perfect excuse to wear sequins, I love anything metallic/ shiny as I'm sure most of girls do, and I don't mind wearing sequins all year round, so I decided to wear my fave gold bomber jacket Which I've featured on here before. It is the perfect mix between casual but still made an effort without really trying kinda vibe. I teamed it with my H&M faux leather trousers which always get comments and/ or compliments. I'm always looking to invest in some more faux leather trousers but because I'm so fussy about the fit so haven't taken the plunge yet. But these are such a staple in my wardrobe and are so versatile, I can wear them pretty much with anything.

I also wore it with a white shirt (my only white shirt) I bought this ages ago and featured it in a August haul video but I haven't got my wear out of it yet- Probably because I when I was trying it on I didn't notice emblazoned on the back the 'all that glitters...' phrase. But it's embroided in gold thread so still counts as party wear.  And lastly, on my feet, another pair of pom pom trainers. I know, I'm almost annoying myself with how much I like them. I already have a black pair and these are my second pair as I wanted something a bit more colourful and not too ridiculous; and yes, I intend to add to my collection on 2017.

I hope you enjoyed this casual take on Christmas party wear and don't worry if you don't attend many Christmas parties, I haven't been to any this year. And seeing as this is my last post before Christmas, I hope you all have a happy and healthy day with your loved ones xx

5 Reasons Why I Cant Instagram

marisa thorne uk fashion blogger

Hands up, who takes their Insta game seriously or is guilty of over thinking about their Instagram feed/ theme? (I know I am) Then this post is for you, its an Instagram rant; while I didn't want it to be a rant about how rubbish Instagram has gotten, I thought I though I would take a more light hearted approach. I have read a handful of posts about 'how to grow your following' and 'up your insta game' and while they have been kinda useful and insightful, I managed to follow most bits of advice from them, my 'insta game and following' has not really grown.

I'm well aware of the mysterious 'algorithm' and how it is making it hard for people to get seen, I also notice the people complaining about it have a following already so at first I didn't get why they were frustrated but when I started to take Instagram more seriously and saw there was 0 pay off, I got it, and because of that I go through phases of liking and not liking Instagram. Instagram used be a really spontaneous way of sharing your pictures and the editing tools it provided were fun, (even if no one knew how to use them) Now it's more contrived and way more effort than I can be bothered to put in. So, to make you all feel better about your own themes, here are my 5 reasons why I'll never be able to instagram.

marisa thorne uk fashion blogger
1) I cant get to grips with a theme. I admire those that do, but my God its a headache! Each picture having to link with the previous one, limiting yourself to a colour scheme, over editing it the same way for each picture and it flowing nicely. I just cant do it! I tried to edit my pics the same way, but ended up just ruining the original so didn't post it. Having a theme for me personally is really restrictive... which I hate. So, I'm kinda ditching the theme. If I have a pic I wanna post, I'ma damn well post it!

2) I don't edit my pictures. (white lie there, I just don't heavily over edit my pictures)  Following on from having a theme and having to edit your pictures so they look uniform... I just cba. I used to use VSCO to change the colour and tweak the lighting of a photo but it just didn't work with all my pictures, so I don't bother anymore. Sometimes editing is necessary and can be fun, but I found myself getting sucked into it a bit too much. The pics that I do post on Instagram are rarely from my phone, they are usually taken on a DSLR camera and have been edited from there, but I do try and avoid editing them again afterwards.

3) I don't buy followers. Kinda controversial here but I just don't agree with it. Some people don't see it as a big deal but I think its a bit shady and not genuine. It's also very misleading for your audience. So, unfortunately for me I'm taking the slow painstaking approach of growing a following naturally.

4) I'm lazy. Simple as. There are times when I just forget to post and leave it days at a time. One of the many tips I read was to be consistent when posting. If I were to do that, the quality of my pictures would be shit, I don't like just posting anything in the name of being consistent but again that could be holding me back. Who knows?

5) I don't live that instagramable life. Another tip I read was to make sure your feed fits with your lifestyle. Well, I don't live a particularly glamorous/ cute life- I don't own anything rose gold, or marble effect. I think the most popular feeds are black and white/ monochromatic but again, that's not my lifestyle. So I have to make do with what I have, which isn't so bad.

marisa thorne uk fashion blogger

So those are my 5 reasons, hope that makes you feel better about your own feed or if you are if you are struggling with Instagram yourself. But from now on I'm not paying any attention to themes or algorithms. I think it could be quite refreshing for some to see a more natural instagram account.

Christmas with Amara*

marisa thorne christmas lifestyle

Hello! It's been a while! I've been desperate to sit down and type away but I've had other commitments which simply had to take priority, but I've got lots of ideas for content which will probably run over to 2017 as I find my footing with my blogging routine again. I remember I was like this last year at Christmas, but Christmas stresses me out ๐Ÿ˜… Everything happens all at once over the holidays; buying presents, social Christmas events, your work load doubles (in my case deadlines) and just general craziness. But as of now, I am actually on top of it all, and I can enjoy the festivities.

In my busy, busy period I kinda ignored Christmas for the first few days and left out my fave part of of it. Decorating the house and tree! I was particularly looking forward to it this year as I had been approached by the lovely brand Amara who asked if I wanted to choose some bits off their website and feature some of their Christmas pieces in a home decore post. After investigating and having a quick peek at their website, I emailed back YAAAASSSS ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‘‘... (defiantly didn't email that, I was a tad more professional)

Amara is a lovely lifestyle website selling all kinds of brands and it's just perfect for finding amazing gifts and presents, or in my case, home furnishings. I was honestly spoilt for choice! There was no method to how and why I chose my items, I attempted to think of a theme but it went out the window pretty quickly. I settled on this lovely gold, glittery wire cage tree decoration, which I love and yes its bigger than I thought but at lest people are gonna notice it.

I also chose what I thought were more Christmas decorations but when opening them saw they were too big for the tree, but still perfect to hang around the home. (I chose the fireplace, cute don't ya think) These are also amazing if you're crafty and into the odd DIY project as these are wooden and can be painted or dipped in glitter or whatever takes your fancy. It's your Christmas!  The last glittery ornament I chose was obviously a gold reindeer, which I thought would be a nice touch and lastly, what is Christmas without fairy lights? I'm honestly not in the market for more fairy lights, but it had be done. Being inundated with cute little white lights, I chose something slightly different an went for these super cute little wooden houses. Not practical for the tree but perfect for placing anywhere in the home for a bit of Christmas atmosphere.

I hope it gave you some ideas and home decore inspiration; and thank you again to Amara, who I would seriously recommend checking out and as of now have a sale on! So what are you waiting for?! I am aiming to get back to my blogging routine real soon guys and hoping everyone is enjoying their Christmas so far xx

Embellished Denim for Winter

marisa thorne UK fahion blogger

I feel like I haven't blogged in ages! I missed last weeks post and this one is still technically late but I'm here now. I always drop the 'blogging ball' around this time of year of too, but I'm determined to keep it up this year. I actually missed it due to college deadlines. That's right, your girl, has been doing all the studying! Well as much as I can manage, with work as well and I've had some cool opportunities come my way too, so hopefully I can share those with you soon, even if its just on social media.

Blogging is kinda hard to do in winter, due to the lack of light and my outfit choices not being the warmest ones I want to show off. I know everybody says they love winter and being cozy and all togged up but I'm more of a summer girl, dressing however I like regardless of the weather. Let me actually get on with the outfit now.

I originally came to Asos for knitwear, as I don't have enough in my wardrobe. I was looking for something quite plain with a high neck and settled on this simple oatmeal coloured one, ideal for chucking on over anything thing. Hope you dont mind how I rushed through that bt I'm actually dying to show off these jeans! Denim is such a staple in any wardrobe, and I'm slowly building up my denim collection. When I saw these on Asos, I bought them straight away, it was such an impulse buy. This seasons denim have either been ripped or frayed or had patches over them, which I'm still into, but these seriously caught my eye. It did occur tome when I saw them in person that I could've saved some money and this could easily be done DIY style, but I'm not that craft savvy, ooops!

The straight leg, boyfriend style appealed to me to as I am all about the comfort and food during the winter months, and these could easily hide the food baby. Unfortunately I cant seem to find them on Asos anymore, maybe they sold out, but I have linked here  some similar ones/ ones that I'm going to buy soon for sure! ;)

Hope to see you all next week xx

Autumn Stripes

marisa thorne UK fahion blogger

I'm coming round to stripes guys! This typical fashion staple didn't exist in my wardrobe until a year ago, but now I have at least 4 stripey t-shirts in my collection.. OK, I know that's not many but you get my point. I bought this long sleeved one from M&S on a whim because I was lacking warmer items and I've worn it way more than I thought I would. It's also proved useful in terms of autumnal layering (which I still cant master.)

On the Go with Primal Pantry

I feel like  I'm really bad at bringing the seasons to my blog. Halloween is soon and I don't have a themed post for that yet. Not very commercial of me seeing as I needed it for past job roles, but meh! But here I am with fresh autumnal OOTD for you now. This autumn has been pretty mild and still quite sunny and quite busy for me, The other day I dragged Jon away from his beloved xbox to the local pub and convinced him to sit outside in the fresh air... and take my picture ;)
